Master’s Program Structure
The courses of the Academic Master’s Program in Automation and Systems Engineering are organized as:
- basic: offered in the first semester,
- specialized: offered in the first and second semester,
- complementary and advanced: offered in the second semesters, and
- general courses.
A full time Master’s student should undertake a course workload of at least 12 credits (e.g., 6 courses each with 2 credits) in the first semester, and 8 credits in the second semester, adding up to 20 credits. For students that are admitted without an academic advisor and research project, the research topic and advisor will defined at the end of the first semester.
For enrollment in dissertation, 20 credits should be completed with a grade point average (GPA) of at least 2 (equivalent to an average “B” grade), and a research project and advisor. For part-time Master’s student, a mode directed to working professionals with the exception of teachers, the dissertation project should be submitted together with the application forms, which should also explain how the course work will foster the proposed research.
The course on scientific methodology is mandatory to all students, either full time or part time. This course is offered in the second semester with a workload corresponding to 2 credits.
The full time students funded from governmental agencies are required to work as teaching assistants for one semester in the undergraduate program, with a workload corresponding to 2 credits.
